Federico Rekowski Bio

Federico Rekowski is an Australian fine-art photographer whose practice explores landscape as a space for atmosphere, emotion, and visual narrative. His work moves beyond literal representation, inviting viewers into constructed environments where place becomes a vehicle for reflection rather than documentation.

Originally drawn to photography in 2005, Rekowski’s practice evolved significantly in 2014 when he began using the medium as a tool for storytelling rather than observation. This shift marked the beginning of a sustained exploration into how image-making can evoke mood, tension, and quiet unease—often blurring the line between reality and abstraction.

Working extensively with post-production, Rekowski develops images that balance technical precision with creative intervention. Long exposures, controlled composition, and layered processing allow him to shape scenes that feel both familiar and subtly altered, encouraging viewers to slow down and engage with the image on an emotional level.

His work has been recognised nationally and internationally, including selection as a member of the Australian team at the World Photographic Cup in 2021 and 2022, and winning the Photography Award at the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award, presented by Campbelltown Arts Centre. Rekowski’s photographs have also featured in major competitions and exhibitions, including the Sony World Photography Awards, Head On Photo Festival, and Australian Photography Awards.

Rekowski’s work is held in public collections and has been commissioned for large-scale public installations, including the Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct redevelopment in New South Wales. He continues to develop personal and commissioned projects that explore the intersection of landscape, memory, and constructed space.
